Both drivers were hospitalized after a car and SUV crash near Mason.

The crash happened shortly before 4pm Thursday on Illinois Route 37, a mile north of Mason.

State police report a car driven by 51-year-old Kent Keppler of Farina was southbound when it drifted over into the northbound lane. A northbound driver, 31-year-old Bryan Jones of Effingham, attempted to swerve his SUV into the southbound lane to avoid a collision, but Keppler swerved back into the southbound lane and the vehicles collided head-on.

Keppler was airlifted from the scene to Carle Hospital in Urbana. Jones was taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, but was later airlifted to Carle.

Keppler was cited for improper lane usage.
