State Police investigation details indicate that at 8:02pm Friday night a Jeep Wrangler driven by Thomas Shelton, 42 of Effingham, was northbound on Counry Road 850E approaching a curve on to 1475N in Jasper County and was traveling to fast to negotiate the curve. Another vehicle was approaching the curve eastbound on 1475N as the jeep began to go around the curve. To avoid hitting the second vehicle, Shelton swerved to the right and back to the left. This caused the jeep to sway back and forth ejecting Shelton's passenger Angela Miley, 44 of Shumway. The vehicle then ran off the roadway and came to a rest in the ditch of the north side of the road.

Shelton was charged with driving to fast for conditions, while Miley was charged with failure to wear a seatbelt.
