A minor earthquake struck just north of Mt. Carmel Tuesday evening. According to the USGS, at 5:22pm, a 3.6 magnitude quake hit about 6 miles north and west of Mt. Carmel.

Officials have so far received no reports of serious damage. The quake was felt in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. One resident we spoke with, who lives about 4 miles north of Mt. Carmel said the quake startled him, and that it "sounded and felt like an explosion, like a large boom, and sort of vibrated for a second". He said he had no damage and had been watching coverage of the earthquake on a TV station out of Evansville. They were also reporting no damage or injuries.

The USGS report on the quake can be found here.
