Plans are being completed for the 4th of July events at Lake Sara and in Effingham.

The fireworks display at Lake Sara is planned Saturday night. Effingham Water Authority Lake Superintendent Michael Dirks said the fireworks are officially set to begin at 9:15pm from the beach. The Good Neighbors of Lake Sara have helped organize the lake display for many years.

Dirks said those planning to watch on land will first be parked by the beach. The parking will then work its way back to grassy areas to the north. Dirks reminds those planning to attend that there is no parking permitted along Moccasin Road or the Beach Road, and no parking is permitted on the dam. He also asks that motorists exercise patience when leaving following the fireworks display. There will be refreshments available near the beach.

For those planning to watch from the water, Dirks reminds to obey all normal boating rules on the lake. He also reminds that there will be patrols on the lake to make sure all rules are being obeyed.

As for the City of Effingham display, fireworks will be displayed just after 9pm Tuesday, the 4th, from Effingham High School's athletic complex, west of the high school building. An option is using the seating at the football field. The fireworks display is sponsored by Effingham Noon Rotary with funding help from the City of Effingham and various other donors. A reminder that no smoking and no alcohol is permitted on Unit 40 grounds. Contact Amanda McKay of Noon Rotary at Effingham Public Library if you'd like to donate toward the cost of the fireworks.

Back for another year is the Effingham Knights of Columbus Council's 4th of July Parking Lot Party. Effingham Knights of Columbus Building Manager Steve Martin said that things will begin at 5pm with music by the band "Old Crows and Young Cardinals". The Matt Poss Band will then perform for an hour or so until time for the fireworks display and then will perform after the fireworks until around 11:30pm. Hamburgers and hot dogs along with drinks will be available for purchase.

A note that 979XFM will feature patriotic music at 9pm both Saturday and Tuesday as we celebrate America!
