A power interruption that caused problems for about 1,000 Ameren customers on Effingham's north side as well as in Shumway and Beecher City has come to an end.

Ameren Illinois' Leigh Morris said fuses blown at a substation at Effingham caused the interruption, which began before 11am.  Power was gradually restored over the course of the noon hour.  KJ Country, with a transmitter location next to Menard's, had power restored shortly after 12:30pm.

Morris said 466 Ameren customers in Effingham were affected by the outage, along with 279 customers in Beecher City and 310 customers in Shumway.
