The Summer Celebration will take place Sunday, July 2, as part of the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce's centennial observance.

The event will be held on the Sacred Heart Parish grounds in Effingham, north across Grove Avenue from Effingham High School. The Celebration will begin at noon and will conclude at 10pm.

Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for 12:45pm.

Highlights will include a Car Show with registration from 11am to 1pm and judging from 1 to 3pm.

Musical entertainment is planned throughout the event, including the "Victory Boys Quartet" at noon, bluegrass music from "Firebox" at 1pm, music by "Whiskey Bend" at 3pm, "Swamp Tigers" at 5pm, and "Super Bad" from 7 to 10pm.

Vintage baseball games are scheduled during the afternoon, with the Vandalia Old Capitols taking on the St. Louis Unions at 1pm and a Vintage Team playing the Effingnam Skippers at 3pm. The games will use the rules in vogue 100 years ago.

Food and beer tents will be available from noon to 10pm. Also scheduled is a tent featuring Chamber memorabilia and businesses that have operated in Effingham County for 100 years or more.

The carnival rides that were in use this past weekend for the Sacred Heart Parish Picnic will remain in place for Sunday's Chamber celebration, and carriage rides by MW Carriage Company will be available from 1 to 5pm.

There will be other activities for kids and grown-ups. Those will include face painting by Stang Arts, Giant Tic-Tac-Toe, football toss and soccer kick, and a crafts area from 1 to 6pm, as well as a hot wheels demo derby at 5:30pm, an adults bags tournament and enjoy Kan-jam at 5:30pm, and an adult kickball game at 5:15pm.
