The Effingham Water Authority Board has decided against allowing engine-propelled surfboards on Lake Sara. The idea had been suggested at the Board's May meeting.

The Boating Committee did research on the operating speed, stopping distance and other safety concerns. They recommended the Board not approve the use of the surfboards. The Board decided against the use of the propelled surfboards, stating there is already an ordinance in place addressing the issue.

Janet Antonacci spoke to the Board in regards to the location of a buoy near her home. The Board will compare maps and look into the issue.

Lake Superintendent Mike Dirks spoke to the Board in regards to obtaining bids for rock in the next month.

Brian Larson of Larson's Landing spoke on a number of non-agenda items. They include announcing the Moccasin Creek Festival on June 23-24-25; announcing Chris Knight, Brandon Jenkins and Bri Bagwell on July 7; announced Pinky's Challenge 2017 for July 22; agreed to work with the Fireworks planning committee on overflow parking for the July 1 fireworks; presented information on new Department of Natural Resources rental boat requirements; requested on duty Water Authority patrol contact information; and requested the board review boat fishing in the launch area.

The board approved a donation to the Lake Sara Fireworks of $800; and the fishing committee has asked for a donation from the board of approximately $250 for the addition of plants to the lake to assist the fish habitat at Lake Sara. The Board will have a response by the July meeting.
