The July trial date of William Carter has been vacated.

Carter is charged with manfacture and/or delivery of a controlled substance. The charge stemmed from a possible overdose of another individual.

City police received a reported May 11 of a possible overdose involving an 18-year-old female who was being transported to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Through interviews with the patient and interviews of friends and family members, detectives identified the drug as a prescription narcotic that was obtained illegally, and Carter is charged in the offense.

Carter had been scheduled to go on trial July 3, but Carter's attorney Tuesday asked that the trial date be vacated and the motion was granted.

No new trial date was set. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for July 27 to consider a new date.
