Farina resident Cody Jones has been sentenced to prison time for a Fayette County offense, and other counties are also involved in the matter.

The 35-year-old Jones Friday was sentenced to 4-1/2 years in prison for the Fayette County charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Fayette County Assistant State's Attorney Brenda Mathis said Jones pled guilty to improper actions against a girl at least 13 years old, but under the age of 17 years old last November. A second similar count facing Jones was dismissed as part of the negotiated plea.

Mathis said the prison time from the Fayette County offense will run concurrent with a six-year prison sentence from Effingham County for residential burglary. Jones pled guilty to the Effingham County offense in April. Counts of possession of a stolen firearm and of receiving or selling stolen vehicles were dismissed in exchange for the residential burglary guilty plea.

Jones still faces counts of possession of stolen vehicle in Marion County.

All of the offenses stem from a day-long series of offenses last November. State police said at the time that vehicle thefts occurred in the Kinmundy area. A stolen vehicle was wrecked near Farina later that evening, and the spree ended that night in Mason where other vehicles were damaged.
