A Newton man was fatally injured when struck by a vehicle in Olney while crossing a street Sunday night.

A van driven by Annette King, 37, of Olney was traveling north on IL 130 near Cherry Street in Olney. At approximately 9:53 p.m. Timothy Eads, 48, of Newton was leaving work and walking across the roadway where there was no crosswalk and apparently did not see the van. King stated she did not see Eads and struck him in the roadway as the roadway was dark. Police say Eads was wearing dark, non-reflective, clothing.

Eads was transported to Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney for treatment and later transferred to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

District 12 Illinois State Police and an Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstructionist processed the scene. The Richland County Sheriff's Office and the Olney Police Department assisted on scene. The crash is still under investigation.
