An August 14 trial date has been set for the 19-year-old Shelby County resident charged with aggravated battery to his child.

Devan Porter is accused of injuries to his 12-day-old child last fall. Illinois State Police Zone 5 Investigators were requested by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office on November 1 to investigate unexplained injuries to the infant. The child had been brought from his home in Cowden to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

The injuries were determined to be consistent with child abuse and the Illinois DCFS was contacted to assist in the investigation.

On November 9, Zone 5 agents arrested Porter and the child's mother, 21-year-old Kayla Girard on the aggravated battery of a child charges. Both subjects have been held in Shelby County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Porter is next due in court on June 9 for a pre-trial hearing.

Girard's trial date has not been set. She is next due in court on June 5.
