Effingham Unit 40 School District has shared information on a recall of a food item served in some district buildings earlier this month.

The school district was notified Tuesday by Kohl Wholesale, the district's food distributor, that the Aunt Jemima Jumbo Whole Grain Waffles 18/8 count that the district served in its Grades K-8 school buildings for breakfast on Monday, May 1 were part of a precautionary manufacturers recall. It's the district's understanding that no illnesses have been reported.

The recall stated that the product has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Pinnacle Foods initiated the recall after testing indicated the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the plant environment where the products are made. The company said the product is being recalled as a precautionary measure given that "the health and safety of consumers is the top priority".

If your student ate breakfast at the ELC, Central Grade School, South Side Grade School or Effingham Junior High School on Monday, May 1 and consumed the Aunt Jemima Jumbo Whole Grain Waffles, be aware of the symptoms listed in the recall document. If your child displays any of the symptoms listed, the district asked that the student be taken for medical attention.
