Nationally-known broadcaster Kurt Becker shared about his efforts to become a better "pray-er" during the National Day of Prayer observance in Effingham Wednesday morning.

The Altamont resident assists with Barrett-Jackson car auctions, is the track announcer at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, and is a frequent part of the Motor Racing Network broadcast team covering NASCAR races.

However, while admitting he is a "professional talker", he is still an "amateur at prayer".

Becker encouraged and uplifted the 200 people gathered for the event at Thelma Keller Convention Center. He shared stories of his career, used quotes from the Bible, and tapped into things he has learned from others as he explained his journey toward becoming a man of prayer.

Proceeds from a love offering received at Wednesday's breakfast will go toward The Cross Foundation. Christy Hakman of the Foundation shared plans for statuary and landscaping envisioned for the Cross grounds once sufficient revenues are received. There was also music provided by Tony Munoz, Kevin Caulkins, Josh Morrison, Lucas Golden and Greg Sapp.

The National Day of Prayer observance in Effingham is a free annual event underwritten by a group of local Christian businesspeople.
