Brian Hartke figures his machine shed and barn are a total loss after a storm hit his farm Saturday evening.

The Hartkes farm just south and west of Dieterich along the Bishop Church Road.

Brian Hartke said he and his wife were gone to pick up their daughter who was coming home from college for the summer at the time the storm hit. It's not known whether the storm involved a small tornado or straight line winds, but it certainly packed a punch.

The barn had most of its siding and roof torn off as well as other damage. The family farmhouse, now occupied by renter Pete Everett and his wife, had several windows blown out and other damage. Another renter a short distance east who lives in a mobile home escaped injury when a tree fell on the trailer. The machine shed, east of the mobile home, had major damage to its roof, the doors and much of the structure.

It's an eerie sight; tin ripped off the buildings is scattered across the field to the east as far as the north crossroad.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

The Hartkes farm about 350 acres. Brian said he has his corn planted and has started on his soybean planting; now, he'll wait to see how his planted acres fare after the rain finally stops falling.
