Three teenagers were injured in a car crash south of Effingham Tuesday afternoon.

Effingham County sheriff's deputies say the crash occurred at 4:40pm on 1700th Street, about a quarter-mile south of the State Police Blacktop in Watson Township. Deputies say a car driven by 16-year-old Gage Payne of Effingham ran off the road and struck a culvert, coming to rest in a ditch.

Payne was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. One passenger, 16-year-old Ayleen Cheung of Effingham, had to be airlifted from the scene by Air Evac to Carle Hospital in Urbana. Another passenger, 15-year-old Jason Bowlin of Effingham, was taken to St. Anthony's for observation.

Teutopolis Fire Protection District firefighters assisted at the scene.

Payne was ticketed for improper lane usage.
