Former Neoga resident John Dilger has pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse for having sex with a 16-year-old girl.

The 41-year-old Dilger was a police officer in Neoga at the time of the incident. He was arrested January 2, 2016 and was fired by the Neoga City Council.

Dilger was placed on four years' probation, including 90 days in Cumberland County Jail. He must pay $12,500 plus court costs.

As part of the plea, a charge of criminal sexual assault was dismissed. Dilger faced up to 15 years in prison had he been found guilty of that charge.

Because of Dilger's prior status as a police officer in Cumberland County, Chief Circuit Judge Craig DeArmond heard the case and Jasper County State's Attorney Chad Miller acted as special prosecutor.
