The final case remaining from last summer's shooting death of Eric Lavaly in Greenup has been concluded with a negotiated plea.

Kyle Covault is the man who was to be robbed by others at the home of Trenton Adamson in July 2016 when he arrived to do a drug deal. Instead, a scuffle broke out and shots were fired, killing Lavaly and wounding Covault.

Covault Monday pleaded guilty to a Class 3 felony count of manufacture or delivery of cannabis. He was placed on 24 months of first offender probation. He was also sentenced to 90 days in Cumberland County Jail, but the jail time was stayed if he successfully completes his probation. He was also fined $1000 plus court costs and must undergo substance abuse evaluation and treatment.

As to the others charged in the case, Lamont Mimms of Mattoon pleaded guilty to the murder of Lavaly and was sentenced to 23 years in prison. Laurinda McWhorter of Charleston pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery and was placed on 36 months probation including 120 days in jail. Trenton Adamson of Greenup, in whose home the event unfolded, pleaded guilty to obstructing justice for destroying evidence and was placed on 30 months probation including 180 days in jail.
