Effingham Water Authority trustees heard details on a new restaurant planned at Lake Sara.

Heron Cove will be operated by Fred and Jodi Nuxoll and Tyler Williams, and will be located in the building that housed Zona's On the Lake. The restaurant will feature fresh food, beverages and on-site gambling. Heron Cove will offer local meats, fresh seafood, utilize their own garden for produce, offer catering and hopefully delivery service in the future. Brian and Nancy Sehy accompanied the Nuxolls and Williams to speak with the Board.

Lake Superintendent Michael Dirks discussed a decision to place a sign in memory of Hunter Barns, former Effingham Water Authority employee who died from injuries received in a crash in June 2016. The sign was placed in Hunter's memory along the trail at Lake Sara. His family and a large team were able to view the sign during the Lake Sara Dam Run earlier this month. Dirks said Hunter loved the outdoors and was a great employee and person. The Water Authority board found it fitting to honor him at the lake.

Lake Sara volunteer Tom Ryan told the Board he had the agreement regarding Lake Sara Beach reviewed by both attorneys and the Board signed the agreement. The agreement conveys the beach property to the Water Authority. Plans are being completed for development of a park at the beach.

The Board signed into effect the ordinance regarding tent camping at Lake Sara, and heard from Eric Johnson about whether there is an ordinance regarding what types of shrubs or trees could be placed on his property. Johnson also discussed a neighboring property and said the Board needs to contact the leaseholder about cleaning up the lot.

The Board discussed a request to rezone property from residential to commercial submitted by Michael Kabbes. The Board will do research and address the proposition at their May meeting. Also, Water Authority attorney Tony Siemer will be sending the Board a copy of the proposed ordinance regarding boat covers, with the thought that the measure could be acted on at the May meeting.

Brian Larson addressed the Board regarding a replat of the marina. The request will be reviewed. Clark Wise spoke to the Board about constructing a warehouse/storage structure in his subdivision. The building would be utilized by three neighboring families for storage. The matter will be considered at the May meeting.
