Prison time resulted from two cases in Shelby County Monday.

53-year-old Brian Depoister of Cowden was sentenced to two years in prison for forgery.

In February, Sherri Depoister of Cowden went to the Cowden Police Department to file a complaint against her husband for taking a check from her checkbook. She said Depoister wrote a check in December to the Shelby County Circuit Clerk's office for $600 to pay his fines and signed her name. When questioned by Cowden Police Chief Zach Sarver, Depoister admitted to taking the check without his wife's permission and signing her name, and that he had taken the check from the middle of the checkbook so it would delay his wife finding out about the check.

In another case, Effingham resident Derek Dale was sentenced to two years in prison for forgery.

The 23-year-old Dale admitted to violating his conditional discharge on felony driving while his license is revoked by forging checks belonging to his mother-in-law and writing them to two different gas stations in Shelbyville. Dale was also spotted by police driving while his license is revoked.
