Cumberland County voters agreed to a school facilities tax Tuesday. The vote was 1,503 Yes and 1,150 No. The revenue generated by the sales tax can be used for facility improvements and new construction. It will tax the same items already taxed, and the same items exempt from sales tax will remain exempt.

There will be a new mayor in Greenup as of May 1.

Local businessman Stacey Carl defeated incumbent Tom Bauguss, 270 to 189 in Tuesday's balloting.

Of nine candidates for Greenup village trustee, Mike Nickles, Danita Starwalt, Alene Blade and Max McCullough, Jr. were elected with 192, 187, 174 and 172 votes, respectively. Donnie Cornwell got 126 votes, Sherry Parker got 121 votes, Terry Wagoner got 99 votes, George Hensley got 75 votes, and David Stovall got 60 votes.

In the Toledo Village President race, John Beck defeated Wes Chambers, 150 to 140.

In the Cottonwood Township Highway Commissioner race, Brad Jones defeated Denny Thornton, 117 to 108.

In the Cottonwood Township trustee race, Bruce McCandlish, Peggy Kuhn, Steve Layton and Dave Shoot were elected in a very tight race with 114, 111, 110 and 108 votes, respectively. Debra Beals got 106 votes, Derrick Thornton got 92 votes, Tiffany Ingle got 89 votes and David Thornton got 68 votes.

In the Woodbury Township Highway Commissioner race, Jason Levingston defeated Jack Lemar, 76 to 59.

In the Neoga Township trustee race, Thomas Moran, Jared McKay, Michael McMullen and Linda Lacy were elected with 327, 295, 292 and 288 votes, respectively. Dorothy Marie Lawyer got 200 votes.

In the Spring Point Township trustee race, Keith Deters, Richard Willenborg, Dennis Buhnerkempe and Dennis Brown were elected with 217, 206, 198 and 192 votes, respectively. George Hill got 73 votes.

In the Sumpter Township trustee race, Alice Sherwood, Daniel Huffman, Mark Shupe and Charles Pennington were elected with 409, 315, 315 and 302 votes, respectively. David Rodebaugh got 251 votes.

In the Cumberland Unit 77 school board race, Ben Bland, Bob Blade and Wes Chambers were elected with 1,206, 1,189 and 1,075 votes, respectively. Kimberly Starwalt got 964 votes.
