Dieterich Village Board members Monday discussed the village cleanup day set for June 3.

The day is an opportunity for village residents to dispose of unwanted items. Village Clerk Brittny Gipson said all items allowed at the landfill will be accepted, as well as appliances and electronics. There will be a fee for televisions, computer monitors and microwaves.

The Board authorized the disposal of a work truck and a dump truck, and purchased a dump trailer that can attach to a vehicle already in the fleet. Also, a bid was awarded to Grunloh Buildings for construction of an addition to the village maintenance building. The bid was $139,990. Work should begin later this month.

Village board members are looking at some comprehensive planning for the village's future. Two proposals were received and will be reviewed with a decision on a firm possible at the May meeting. K&H Lawn Service of Effingham was contracted to mow the village cemetery this summer, Bohnhoff Brothers Construction was hired to seed the village lagoon, and Keith Lewis was hired to pour concrete runners in the village cemetery.

The Board discussed changes to the Approrpriations Ordinance needed for the new fiscal year beginning May 1, and decided to purchase landscape boulders for use around the Civic Center and along the north side of the parking area on Virginia Street to restrict access to the areas with vehicles. The Board also hired Cody Bloemer and Randy Brummer as summer employees.
