The Effingham Zoning Board of Appeals approved two requests for variance in normal zoning requirements at this week's meeting.

One request had been made by Debolt Properties for a sign of larger size and height than typically allowed. The Debolt family plans to replace their sign at Culver's Frozen Custard and Butterburgers at 1510 W. Fayette.

The other request was from Prairie Investments. The firm plans to construct three more apartment buildings similar to one already in place in the 400 block of North Oak Street. The variance approved this week reduces the normal rear yard setback requirement. City Engineer Jeremy Heuerman said there was no opposition from the neighbors to the request. The property butts up against the rear of the Effingham County Health Department offices.
