(LAST'S YEAR TREC CHAMPIONS WERE {in no particular order} MICHAEL BRUMMER, NICK BRUMMER, KYLE HARDEN AND VINCE HIGGS)

TREC, Trails Recreation Effingham County, invites area residents to join in the fun at TREC’s 9th Annual TREC Big Wheels Race, in conjunction with the Effingham Artisan Fair “Arts & Hearts” night. The entire event kicks off at 5:00 p.m. in downtown Effingham on Friday May 5th with plenty of activities for the whole family.

The TREC event begins at 5:15 p.m. on Fourth Street with a Kids Bike Race. All children must supply their own bike and are encouraged to wear a helmet. The Kids Race will be from 5:15 - 5:30 p.m. for children 12 and under. There will be medals for the children who participate in this fun race. The Kids Bike Race is free to enter; just show up ready to race at 5:15 p.m.

The Adult Big Wheel Race will kick off at 5:30 p.m. This is a four-person relay race in downtown Effingham on Fourth Street. Teams can consist of co-workers and/or a group/friends. All competitors must be at least 18 years of age on race day.

If your business or group is interested in participating in this event, event forms are available at the Effingham Visitor Center (1505 Hampton Drive) or e-mail thoelej@ci.effingham.il.us to have the form e-mailed to you. You can mail the form, along with your $50 entry fee to: Effingham Tourism Office, 201 E. Jefferson Ave, Effingham, IL 62401. Deadline to enter is April 28th.

Organizers encourage all area businesses and groups to participate in this fun event as a way to support TREC and the community. The winning team receives a traveling trophy and bragging rights for all of 2017! See if you can beat last year’s winners: The Dog, featuring Michael Brummer, Nick Brummer, Kyle Harden and Vince Higgs. TREC is excited to use Big Wheels again this year for the race. These adult big wheels will be a fun challenge to all participating. If you haven’t watched the races before, organizers invite you to head downtown on Friday, May 5th and enjoy the race.
