The Richard E. Workman Sports and Wellness Complex is seeing an 85% renewal rate among members.

One year after the full center opened with the debut of the Midland States Bank Aquatic Center, the Complex's General Manager Jake Junghanel said the renewal rate is well ahead of the typical 65% to 70%. There are 1,986 memberships to the Complex, translating to 5,989 people.

Junghanel also noted there are 50 different classes available at the Complex, all free to the membership.

Park District Director Jeff Althoff reported that on the anniversary of the Complex, he, a representative of the contractor Poettker Construction, and architect Greg Grunloh of Holabird and Root did a walkthrough of the facility. Althoff said items were seen that need addressed, mostly touchup items, and said a couple of problems with the heating and air conditioning were discussed.

The Park Board Wednesday also approved payment of the final $218,000 owed Poettker on the project.

The Board also went through the audit of the District for the last year. Auditor Mark Kenter indicated the District is in good standing, and that adding the Workman Complex certainly added value to the District. Kenter was retained by the Board for another year to do the District's audit work.

Board members also annexed a lot at 402 West Evergreen into the park district.
