The area in and around Effingham County faces a moderate risk of severe weather overnight tonight, including the potential for tornadoes.

The National Weather Service indicates the high temperatures and the winds expected through the area could lead to tornadoes, as well as other strong winds and large hail. Up to three-quarters of an inch to one inch of rainfall is also a possibility.

Our area could see some scattered storm activity late this afternoon, but the larger risk is in the overnight hours, roughly 2-6am Wednesday, according to the Weather Service.

The storm system is targeting a large part of the region.
