A 53-year-old Alma man was trapped in his SUV after it ran off the Oak Grove Road near the Martin Road in rural Alma late Saturday night.

Initial information indicates Richard Schoreck came around a curve, overcorrected, and ran off the south side of the road. The SUV came to rest on its side.

Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day says when they arrived, Schoreck was partially out of the passenger side window, but couldn't get the rest of the way out because of how the SUV came to a stop.

The fire department used the Jaws of Life and other rescue equipment to get Schoreck out. Day says Schoreck was flown from the scene to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Schoreck was the only one in the vehicle when the crash occurred around 11:15pm Saturday. A passerby spotted the wreck a short time after it occurred.
