Cumberland Board Recognizes WYSE Team, Acts on Personnel Items

The Cumberland school board recognized their WYSE team for its accomplishments, but also acted on personnel items at this month's meeting.

The WYSE team placed second overall in the regional competition at Lake Land College and will advance to the Sectional at Eastern Illinois University on March 9. Top individual placers for Cumberland: Drew Warner--first place in computer science and in engineering graphics...Hayden Kanizer--second place in English...and Dillon Howard--third place in physics.

The Board heard that parent/teacher conferences for Cumberland district will take place this Monday and Tuesday, the 27th and 28th from 4 to 6:30 each evening. Parents should phone the school office if they want to set up a conference.

Pre-school screening for Cumberland students will be March 7th and 8th at the Toledo Christian Church. Parents or guardians may phone the grade school office to schedule an appointment for their child. Children entering Kindergarten next year will be screened and registered for school in May. Those students should not attend the preschool screening. More information will be announced soon for Cumberland Kindergarten registration and screening.

The Cumberland board approved the school calendar for 2017-18, approved a phone system contract with Frontier Communications, and set high school graduation for May 21.

Board members hired Coleman Sappington as a high school Ag teacher, hired April Webb as an elementary Special Education teacher, hired LeAnn Akins as a high school English teacher, and granted Marjori Comer a leave of absence through February 28, 2018.
