Mattoon city police have made an arrest in a Sunday evening armed robbery.

21-year-old Kenneth Moultrie, Jr. of Charleston was arrested shortly after 2am Monday in the 1700 block of 11th Street in Charleston. Moultrie was arrested on counts of home invasion, armed robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Mattoon police were called to the apartments at 4213 Lakeland Boulevard regarding a report of an armed robbery. Officers spoke to a person who had been physically assaulted and robbed at gunpoint. The victim told police that a group of men armed with handguns forcibly entered his apartment and demanded money from everyone inside the residence. The victim alleged that several of the men struck him with firearms when he initially declined to provide them with money. The victim was treated by paramedics for cuts and blunt force injuries to his head and face.

The charges against Moultrie allege that he was armed with a firearm and forcibly entered the victim's apartment, that he robbed two victims at gunpoint, and that he injured one victim by striking him about the head and face with a pistol.

Moultrie was taken to Coles County Jail. Mattoon police are continuing their investigation.
