Effingham Park Board members Wednesday approved the issuance of $500,000 in bonds.

The funds will cover the debt certificate payment on the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex for the year. Any remaining revenue will be used for minor repairs or landscaping needed at the complex.

The Board confirmed the hiring of Dave Storm as Park Board Treasurer. Storm succeeds Anita Broom, who is working fulltime for St. Francis Church in Teutopolis. Storm will work at the same monthly rate as Broom was receiving.

Park District Director Jeff Althoff reported on fixed assets in the district. Althoff mentioned cameras that have been placed inside the Ron Diehl Center at Hendelmeyer Park and the deterrent factor they have provided as far as vandalism inside the facility.

Board members heard that the number of Workman Sports and Wellness Center memberships is up to 1,935, meaning just under 6,000 members. Althoff said the number of Silver Sneakers is also up as couple of other insurance companies have approved the program.

Althoff also discussed changes in the Park District Summer Program, including a "day camp" effort designed for kids too old for day care but not quite old enough to stay home by themselves.
