The Shelbyville Township Electoral Board Friday ruled to strike the objection of a candidate for highway commissioner and allow another candidate to remain on the ballot.

Robin Robertson had objected to the candidacy of Cory Wells as Shelbyville Township Highway Commissioner. Robertson contended that Wells had not fulfilled the one-year residency requirement to seek the office, and that nominating papers for Wells were not notarized.

The Board, though, ruled that the law reads that Wells' candidacy is valid and he should be on the ballot. Robertson is the other candidate for highway commissioner in the township.

Robertson has five days to appeal the Board's decision.

Effingham attorney Chris Koester had been appointed by Chief Circuit Judge Michael McHaney to serve as counsel for the electoral board.
