Stewardson-Strasburg school board members heard this week that a recent fundraiser for the district's education foundation was a success.

District resident Jim Weiss helped schedule a fundraising banquet that featured Effingham natives Chad and Chase Green, who discussed their baseball careers. Chad Green has a shot at making the New York Yankees' pitching rotation this season.

Enough money was raised to establish two Chad and Chase Green Scholarships, and $7,100 was raised for the foundation's endowment fund. Another $1,000 was raised for the foundation's immediate needs fund.

The Board also heard from Anna Kiley of the Office of Business and Economic Development for Shelbyville and Shelby County. Kiley shared that a Shelby County CEO Program will be in place for next school year. CEO is a course where students learn about becoming an entrepreneur including guidelines on how to start their own business.

Board members decided to share an Art teacher with the Windsor school district next year with final action in February, and decided to offer pre-school next year if grant funding is received.

The Board agreed to hold junior high and high school graduation this year both on Sunday, May 21; junior high at 1:45pm and high school at 3pm. Superintendent Michele Lindenmeyer said they decided to try something different this year.

In personnel moves, the Stew-Stras board approved the hire of Scott Dow as Windsor/Stew-Stras coop golf coach for next year, Ronda Schlechte as Windsor/Stew-Stras coop head volleyball coach, Marsha Friedrich as Windsor/Stew-Stras coop assistant volleyball coach, Ben Giertz as junior high baseball head coach, and Nick Niemerg as junior high girls basketball head coach. The Windsor school board will consider the hirings at their meeting later this month.
