Teutopolis Village Board members Wednesday purchased a tract of land behind August Wind Subdivision for additional residential development.

The Board is attempting the same thing that has proved successful for the Village of Dieterich, purchasing land and then making the property available for residential development in hopes of attracting people to the community.

It was agreed to acquire 40 acres of property from the Schleper family at a cost of $12,500/acre.

Also Wednesday, the Teutopolis board heard from Tom Bauserman and Al Church, who want to brew beer.

Actually, the two Teutopolis High School employees already brew beer; they just want to take their enterprise to the next level, including producing enough product to make it available to distributors. They plan to use the building at 303 West Main Street, next to Mainly You Salon and Spa, as their brewery distribution center.

Since the pair has no plans to sell the beer on premises, no changes to the village's liquor ordinance are necessary.

Meanwhile, the Teutopolis board tabled a proposed transfer of funds from the general fund to the building fund; decided on more research before accepting Payment Service Network for utility billing customer payments; and delayed action on possible changes to the village sewer ordinance.

The Board raised Jonathan Spour's pay to $17/hour since he has obtained his water operator license.
