When Keith Tipsword's family wanted a marker at an area cemetery remembering him for his service in the military and his death at Pearl Harbor in World War II, they knew where to start.

Veterans Service Officer Lynn Brown.

(LYNN BROWN)

Brown got as much information as possible and went to work, eventually securing the family a marker for the gravesite but also Tipsword's military records and other honors he received during his service. There's now a marker at the old Methodist cemetery along the Moccasin Road, commemorating Tipsword's life, and death, thanks to Brown.

Brown has been honored as Employee of the Quarter by the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs.

Brown has served as VSO for more than 26 years. He is well-known by fellow VSOs for his vast knowledge of both Federal and State programs, entitlements and benefits. He also attends veterans events and creates awareness of the work of the Department of Veterans Affairs for area veterans.

The recognition of Brown by IDVA also mentions his work in the community, grilling hot dogs at an American Legion baseball fundraiser or at a VFW benefits program for veteran widows and children.

Brown and his wife Carolyn live in Effingham.
