Two Crashes w/Injuries in City Over the Weekend

Two crashes resulting in injuries were investigated by Effingham City Police.

One crash occurred just after 3pm Friday at 1307 West Grove. Police say a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Kiersten Ashbaugh of Effingham backed into a parked vehicle while the driver, 18-year-old Austin Thompson of Effingham was exiting the vehicle. 

Thompson was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. No citations were issued.

The other crash occurred last Wednesday evening at Banker and Wabash just before 5:30pm. 

Police say a vehicle driven by 66-year-old Sharon Lytle of Effingham rear-ended a vehicle driven by 36-year-old Carla Wakefield of Shumway. Both drivers were injured. Lytle refused treatment, while Wakefield was taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Lytle was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
