Marion County State's Attorney Bill Milner said the investigation of Robert Lane, 67, of Kinmundy, began when customs agents seized a box addressed to Lane when it came into the country from China. After it was determined the package contained a kilogram of Alpha PVP, or bath salts, a plan was put together to arrest Lane.

A search warrant was issued by the court for Lane's home that would only be good if he accepted the package. Federal Homeland Security Agents, Illinois State Police drug task forces based in Collinsville and Effingham, along with Marion County Sheriff's Deputies then laid out plans to deliver the package on Tuesday. Once Lane accepted it, Milner said police moved in and executed the search warrant, recovered the package, and took Lane into custody.

Lane has been formally charged with a Class X drug charge of unlawful possession with intent to deliver more than 200 grams of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $50,000. Lane has since posted $5,000 cash bond and been released from jail. He is due back in court for a first appearance with an attorney on January 25th.
