Today is the first official day on the job for new Effingham Police Chief Jeff Fuesting.

The Effingham native was hired by the City Council in December. He has served more than 20 years on the St. Louis County Police Department.

Fuesting's first day duties will include swearing in four new police officers to the city force. The City Council decided several months to increase the police force by four officers.

Those being sworn in are Ryan Holsapple, Daniel Dust, Derek DePoister and Jason Gouchenouer.
