An Effingham native is excited to be coming home as the city's next police chief.

Jeff Fuesting was formally hired Tuesday night by the Effingham City Council on a 5-0 vote. Fuesting will begin his duties on January 3.

Fuesting, the son of former Effingham police officer Mark Fuesting who was present for the hiring, is a captain with the St. Louis County Police Department. During a conversation with our Greg Sapp, Fuesting promised a strong social media presence and promised he would always provide the media with answers. He said, "You might not always like the answer, but you'll always receive one." Fuesting is active on Twitter as can be learned by checking out the St. Louis County Police website.

Fuesting agreed that it's an exciting time to take over heading the police force, what with the upcoming addition of four officers to the force and work about to get underway on a new police station building replacing the existing structure just south of City Hall.

Our conversation with new police chief Jeff Fuesting will be available on our social media sites on Wednesday.
