Dieterich village board members have finalized a Christmas Lighting Contest for village residents.

The contest will take entries through this Saturday, December 10. E-mail a photo of your display to dieterichcontest@gmail.com. The entries will be featured on the Village of Dieterich Facebook page and residents can vote on their favorites from December 12-26. The first place winner will get free village utilities for the month, the second place winner will get 75% off their village utility bill, and the third place winner will get 50% off their bill.

The Board approved the purchase of additional trees. Oak trees are being purchased for both parks, and pine trees will be purchased to replace dead trees on the berm separating the residential area from the Industrial Park.

Also approved was a tax levy for the fiscal year 5% higher than what was extended for taxes last year, generating a total of $47,610. Holiday pay and bonus gifts were also approved: $12.50/month for the months worked during the year by employees, and $25 gift cards for Board members.

The Board also awarded $5,000 toward the village's Quasquicentennial Celebration in 2018. The goal is to raise $50,000 for the celebration.
