Stewardson-Strasburg school board members have moved ahead with a restroom renovation project.

After completing a retrofitting of the restrooms serving the main lobby area at the school, the new project will focus on two sets of restrooms at the east end of the grade school wing.

The Board approved the issuance of general obligation bonds to finance the work, which will be undertaken this summer. The project will also involve replacement of some flooring that contains asbestos.

The Board authorized use of school facilities for a fundraising event designed to rejuvenate the district's Educational Foundation. The goal of the Foundation is to fund teacher grant requests for things the district budget can't cover and for scholarships for district students. A kickoff event will be held January 8 and will feature a meal as well as a presentation by Chad and Chase Green of Effingham. Chad is a pitcher for the New York Yankees while Chase is an assistant baseball coach at McKendree University.

Board members approved commercial insurance renewal after news that the new premium is down 6.38% from this year's rates, and heard after a meeting of the Windsor/Stew-Stras athletic co-op that coaches will continue to be hired in January and June and that work will begin on a joint sports boosters club.

In personnel matters, the Stew-Stras Board issued a notice of remedial warning to teacher William Little to address some discipline matters. The Board hired Dorothy Long as a substitute teacher and hired Quinn Bennett as high school assistant softball coach.
