Teutopolis School Board Discusses Future of High School Building

Teutopolis school board members discussed the future of their high school building at this week's meeting.

The current building, parts of which were built in the 1920s, features many different levels and infrastructure challenges. The Board discussed the facility and preliminary estimates on renovation costs vs. construction and demolition.

The Board also:

--approved the administrator salary report and compensation report

--approved adding the following statement to the student attendance policy..."any student who accummulates five absences in a quarter may be required to present a doctor's note for additional absences to be excused"

--appointed Board member Jim Buhnerkempe to represent the district at the state convention in Chicago in November

--purchased a used 2016 71-passenger school bus, with trade-in, for $73,196

--discussed a contract with Apptegy for a website program, but tabled the item to get more information

--discussed the need for a new water heater for the junior high building, but tabled the item to get more information

--approved a proposal from Habing Furniture for new flooring in the Unit office

--discussed financing options for maintenance work

--discussed the tax levy with expectations for dropping the rate

--hired Cheryl Thompson as a volunteer high shcool Scholar Bowl coach

--approved the retirement of building principal Angie Sheehan at the end of the 2019-2020 school year
