Two Crashes w/Injuries in City During the Weekend

Effingham city police investigated two crashes involving injuries over the weekend.

One crash occurred at 12:56pm Friday at Jefferson and Oak. A vehicle driven by 66-year-old Nancy Ferris of Neoga rear-ended a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Amy Fry of Cowden. Ferris, Fry and a passenger in Fry's vehicle, five-year-old Colten Fry of Cowden, were all injured and were transported by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Ferris was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

The other crash occurred at 3:32pm Sunday west of the intersection of Rickelman and 3rd. Police said a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Travis Summers of Effingham rear-ended a vehicle driven by 25-year-old April Melluzzo of Effingham.

Melluzzo was injured and was transported by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. No citations were issued.

City police are also investigating criminal damage to property at Tri-Power Towing at 900 South Oak between 10pm Thursday and 8am Friday. A gate sustained approximately $5,000 in damage.
