Effingham resident Richard Rodgers was sentenced Thursday to 11 years in prison for his role in a traffic crash that resulted in the death of a Shelbyville man.

The 33-year-old Rodgers was sentenced for aggravated DUI involving death or injury. The charge stemmed from a crash on a road near Macon, south of Decatur, in August of 2015. 34-year-old Justin Baker was killed in the crash and Baker's four-year-old son was injured and hospitalized. Rodgers was also injured and hospitalized.

Rodgers admitted to being under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.

Rodgers, who has been in custody for over a year waiting a disposition of the case, must also pay a series of fines and court costs and will be on mandatory supervised release for two years after he is out of prison. He must serve at least 85% of the sentence.
