A semi, a SUV and a truck pulling a trailer were all involved in a crash north of Effingham Thursday morning.

The crash happened at 4:58am on I-57 Southbound near the Green Creek rest area.

Illinois State Police report a SUV driven by 35-year-old Gerold Jewell of Arcola failed to slow down and rear-ended a semi driven by 46-year-old Terry Tribble of Pocahontas, Arkansas. The collision left Jewell's SUV stopped in the roadway with no lighting. A pickup truck pulling a trailer driven by 69-year-old Donald Whitwood of Hudson, Illinois, spotted Jewell's vehicle too late to avoid a collision. Whitwood attempted to swerve but still struck the Jewell vehicle.

Jewell was injured in the crash and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Jewell was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
