The Effingham Park Board has a new option as far as Evergreen Mini Golf at Evergreen Hollow Park.

The Board has heard from Adam Huston, who would like to purchase the mini golf facilities from Mark and Julie Pruemer-Pike and then lease the space at Evergreen Hollow from the Park District.

Park District Director Jeff Althoff said Huston is agreeable to a five-year lease agreement with the possibility of extending the agreement annually from that point. The Board had failed to reach agreement with the Pikes after they sought a longer-term lease. Althoff and Huston will continue meeting to finalize the shorter-term agreement especially concerning the lease of the property from the Park District.

The Board also heard from Jake Junghanel, general manager of the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex, on activity at the complex. Junghanel said membership at the Workman is up to approximately 1,680 and growing.

Junghanel also shared an idea for a New Year's Eve event at the Workman Complex, including family activities, as well as a series of boxing matches. The Board gave the plan its unofficial okay, and also voted to participate in the effort by the City of Effingham and the Village of Teutopolis to seek approval of a new enterprise zone.

Meanwhile, Althoff indicated he wants to form an advisory committee with an interest in making sure the Workman Complex continues to be successful. Althoff said he and a Park Board member will serve on the committee, but would like to hear from others interested in serving.
