Chamber, Newton Power Plant Host Recruitment Open House for Dislocated Workers

A Recruitment Open House was held for Newton Power Plant employees who will lose their jobs due to the closure of one-half of the power plant this Saturday.

JoAnn Sasse Givens, Workforce Development Coordinator with the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce together with Newton Power Plant Manager Alan Bogardus conducted the Open House at the plant. 

Attending the Open House with Givens were Chamber Members Prudential Financial-Matt Roedl, HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Stevens Industries, Joint Active Systems/Bonutti Research, B&L Machine and Design, Air Stamping, Inc., Heartland Dental, Hodgson Mill, CEFS, and The Equity. At the event, company representatives from the Chamber presented information about their industries, and employees explained the type of work that they had done previously and what type of work they were now seeking.

Givens works for the Chamber to assist employers with recruitment efforts, and also works with area educators to ensure that the type of training local companies need for workforce development is being provided.
