It's Homecoming Week 2016 at Effingham High School.

This year's theme is "There's No Place Like Homecoming", borrowing from The Wizard of Oz.

Today is 'Merica Day, Tuesday will be Hat Day, and Wednesday will be Class Spirit Day.

The Homecoming Parade will be held Wednesday evening, stepping off from behind Effingham Public Library at 6pm. The parade marshal will be retired Unit 40 School Board President Delbert Soltwedel. The procession will head west (the wrong way) on Jefferson Avenue to Cherry Street, south on Cherry to Grove Avenue, and then west on Grove to the high school. 

A powderpuff football game will follow the parade at 7:30pm on Klosterman Field.

Thursday will be Decades Day, and Friday will be Spirit Day with an assembly at 2pm. The Homecoming Game will be played Friday night at 7:00 on Klosterman Field as the Hearts host Taylorville. The coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen will take place at halftime.

The Homecoming Dance will take place Saturday night from 8-11pm with doors opening at 7:30pm in the big gym at EHS. Tickets for the dance cost $10 and are on sale in the cafeteria during lunch hours through Wednesday. Nathan Loker will take Homecoming photos.

This year's Homecoming Court includes Freshman attendants Emma Budde and Madilynn Stortzum and Freshman escorts are Clayton Cramsey and Austin Waldhoff; Sophomore attendants Natalie Carie and Kaylee Phillips and Sophomore escorts Dylan Bushur and Levi Jones; and Junior attendants Maria Dust and Natalee Swafford and Junior escorts Terrence Hill and Jacob Swan.

This year's Senior Queen candidates are Shelby Borries, Alexandria Denoyer and Tara Torres, while Senior King candidates are T.J. Bleeker, Antonio Munoz and Jacob Bushue.
