Jefferson Avenue in Effingham from Willow Street, east to Fayette Avenue (US Route 40) will be closed starting on Monday, September 26 for road work for approximately two weeks.

No thru traffic (from Willow to Fayette) will be allowed on Jefferson Avenue. Construction crews will be replacing curbs and gutters, replacing sidewalks, and milling and placing new asphalt on the street.

Access to residences in the affected area will be maintained during the project with the exception of 24 hours on the day when new asphalt is placed. An additional notice will be provided to affected residences in advance of the asphalt paving date and time of work. Residents will have to use Cleveland Street and Long Street to access Jefferson Avenue.

The City of Effingham is apologizing in advance for any inconvenience during the construction of what they term the "necessary and much needed" improvements to Jefferson Avenue.
