Effingham County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel, Chief Election Authority in the county, has shared information on candidate petition circulating and filing for the April 4, 2017 consolidated election.

The filing period for the election will be December 12-19.

Candidates for Board of Education file petitions with the County Clerk's office. In Effingham County, those are Altamont Unit 10, Beecher City Unit 20, Dieterich Unit 30, Effingham Unit 40, and Teutopolis Unit 50.

Candidates for the following villages file petitions with their respective village clerk: Beecher City, Dieterich, Edgewood, and Shumway and candidates in the Town of Mason should file with their town clerk.

The Villages of Montrose and Watson will caucus on December 5.

Candidates for the Village of Teutopolis have a different filing date, November 21-28, because they elect on a non-partisan basis, and they file with the village clerk. Also, they are the only municipality that could have a consolidated primary election on February 28, 2017.

The Cities of Effingham and Altamont will not be electing Council members in 2017.

The Township Caucus will be held on December 6, and the Multi-Township Caucus will be held on December 7.
