One person was injured when the moped he was operating struck a dog.

The incident happened at 7:37pm Wednesday on 1400th Street, just north of 1975th Avenue in Douglas Township. The scene is just south of the Effingham-Shelby county line.

Effingham County sheriff's deputies report the moped, ridden by 60-year-old Joseph R. Cooper of Effingham, was headed north when the unit struck a dog in the roadway. Cooper lost control of the moped, which fell over, and fell off the vehicle.

Cooper, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. No citations were issued.
