The man placed on probation for reckless homicide after a fatal crash in Effingham County has been arrested again.

62-year-old John Adams of Beardstown was arrested Thursday by Effingham County sheriff's deputies on a contempt of court citation for failing a drug test. Adams allegedly tested positive for cocaine.

(JOHN ADAMS)

Adams was the driver of a semi involved in a crash in the fall of 2014 north of Effingham along I-57. Adams was attempted to make a U-turn in the median turnaround, but a portion of his rig was still on the roadway when it was struck by a car driven by Brianne Martin of Effingham, resulting in her death.

At one point, Adams had been charged with aggravated DUI causing death, but prosectors later changed their strategy when it could not be proved Adams was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the crash. Cocaine metabolite was found in his urine, but that is an indication the cocaine had already passed through his system.

State's Attorney Bryan Kibler sought a five-year prison sentence for Adams, but he was given 30 months' probation.
